prom / high school prom - společenský večírek, který se koná pro studenty na střední škole. Na “prom“ jdete většinou se svým přítelem/přítelkyní, ale ... you can certainly go to the prom alone. Many people who are not dating anyone go there alone and have lots of fun dancing with many different people once they get there. You can also just go there with friends and dance with friends, it really doesn't matter.

The origin of "prom" is from the French word: promenade, meaning walk or stroll.
